Outdoor Testing

This facility offers outdoor testing of up to 16 industrial-size 1-cell minimodules in parallel over approximately six months, tracked via a rack-mounted “BOM-Tester” with adjustable sky-facing angle and periodic IV tracing. Irradiance and outdoor temperature are monitored (additional sensors can be added on request), with daylight photoluminescence imaging planned as a future upgrade. Historic data is exportable in multiple formats, though real-time remote monitoring is not available.

On request, devices can undergo extended indoor characterization before outdoor deployment and periodic indoor testing throughout the exposure period. Access is on-site only, including two days for training, installation, sample recovery, and data exchange; long-term experiments run unattended with periodic user updates.

Primarily applied to assessing silicon solar cells with varying bills-of-material (encapsulation, lamination processes, glass types) under real-world conditions, this service is built on a distinctive “statistical microstructure workflow”: (1) metrology-based selection of suitable samples/regions via outdoor and high-throughput indoor measurements, (2) tailored sample preparation, and (3) high-resolution microstructural and nanoanalytical investigation of selected samples or regions of interest.
